Tryweryn Review

Written by  and published in Trip Reports

The weekend took off to a great start when 5 of us met up at the old JJ's in Llangollan and spent the whole afternoon playing about in the river. Thanks to Craig's never ending enthusiasm [probably brought on by the Haribo sweets he'd bought at the services] we all got to body surf down a drop and glide across and back. Great fun!

We arrived at the bunk house in Bala early evening. It was clean and well managed by a character called Stella, who stood no nonsense! The group was boosted to 8 on Saturday morning and the whole day was spent on the Trywern at The National White Water Centre. This is an excellent place to enjoy the experience of paddling on fast flowing water. It's a very attractive natural river. But has been ''manicured'' and is managed by the NCC. Water is released from the dam above which means the water levels are controlled and can be enjoyed year round.

The river proved to be an excellent challenge for the less experienced and with the help and encouragement of the advanced paddlers in the group, were able to build confidence ferry gliding and eddy hopping down the top section.

After lunch at the Center. We paddled down the very pretty lower section of bubbly flowing water into Bala where we took on Bala Mill falls. The day proved so enjoyable that the group decided to do it all again before returning home on the Sunday.

Thanks to all for making it such a great weekend.
